Working at Stotles

About this Role & Why We're Hiring

It's never been a more exciting time at Stotles. Here's why we're looking for you.

We’re looking for a Product Engineer to help build and improve key parts of our product across the stack. You’ll work closely with product, design, and other engineers to deliver high impact features, improve our core platform, and enhance the workflows our customers rely on every day.

You’ll be hands on and will contribute to architectural discussions as well as help to drive high standards in code quality, testing, and reliability. As we scale, you’ll play an important role in shaping how our engineering team builds, ships, and maintains software.

Comp Range: £65,000 - £80,000 base plus equity dependent on experience

What You'll Do

  • As a Product Engineer at Stotles, you’ll be involved in all phases of product development:

    • You’ll work in a small, cross-functional product team, collaborating with product and design (alongside our CPO, Carsten, and Head of Design, Phil) to plan and deliver well-scoped features from design and implementation through testing, deployment and monitoring.

    • You’ll have opportunities to build new customer-facing features and backend services across our TypeScript/React/Nest.js stack, working on meaningful challenges such as:

      • Building the next generation of our AI-powered capabilities

      • Improving our search and discovery experience

      • Enhancing the foundations of our core platform

    • You’ll contribute to improving the scalability, performance, and reliability of our systems.

    • You’ll participate in technical design discussions and contribute ideas that improve our architecture.

    • You’ll help maintain and evolve our coding standards, testing practices, and developer tooling.

    • You’ll work closely with other engineers to review code, share knowledge, and continuously raise the bar.

Our tech stack

  • Front-end: TypeScript with React

  • Back-end: Node.js / TypeScript / GraphQL with Nest.js (migrating from Ruby on Rails)

  • Data: PostgreSQL and OpenSearch

  • Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform

  • CI/CD: fully automated builds, testing, and deployments

We review our stack often — you’ll help us make the right technology choices for scale and speed. See more on our stackshare

Who We're Looking For

Skills we’re looking for

  • 4+ years of experience as a Product Engineer or Full-Stack Software Engineer

  • Experience with TypeScript or JavaScript

  • Experience with developing web UIs with React or similar technology

  • Understanding of relational databases and/or search technologies

  • Ability to translate product requirements into sound technical decisions

  • Strong fundamentals in testing, debugging, and writing maintainable code

  • Experience working on SaaS products or data-heavy applications (bonus)

Qualities we’re looking for

  • Effective communicator: Sharing complex ideas and presenting your work with both the engineering team and the wider Stotles team.

  • Great at working with others, great at managing your time: We’re a small team working on ambitious goals so effective teamwork is crucial. At the same time we expect everyone to manage their workload efficiently.

  • Focused on impact, not output: Always focused on the customer impact of what we’re building, using the best tool for the job and excited to learn new things in the process.

  • Ambitious curiosity: Eager to learn skills and technologies outside of your comfort zone, take ever more challenging tasks and grow into a senior engineering role at Stotles.

  • Dependability & detail-oriented: Trusted to deliver on the commitments you make to the team, from the big picture results to the nuanced details.

Most importantly, we're looking for curious, ambitious people who love to learn and want to be a part of building something special. If (for any reason) you don't fit our requirements but you're passionate about our vision, don't hesitate to apply!
