Are you ready to be a part of it? This is your chance! We’re hiring for Senior Backend Developer (Tim Team).

Tasks in the role

  • Develop and maintain the Semrush Enterprise website crawler, continuously improving speed, scalability, and data accuracy.

  • Build and optimize backend services for large-scale website data processing using Scala and Akka.

  • Solve complex crawling, parsing, and data extraction challenges.

  • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code; actively participate in code reviews.

  • Take an active role in architecture and system design decisions together with the engineering team.

  • Work closely with engineers and product owners to solve customer business problems using highly scalable, data-driven systems.

Who we are looking for

  • At least 2 years of work experience in Scala or a similar functional programming language on JVM

  • Experience working with Scala-related technologies such as Akka, Akka HTTP, Spark, etc.

  • Understand the basics of Container (Docker Environments), modern CI/CD Pipelines

  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)

  • Strong problem-solving skills

Not required, but a plus

  • Google Cloud, AWS, or Kubernetes knowledge would be a big plus

A bit about the team

The Tim Team is at the heart of Semrush’s platform, responsible for developing and maintaining the Enterprise website crawler. The crawler leverages the Chrome/Lighthouse engine to analyze website performance, usability, legal compliance, and accessibility issues. You will join a team of developers and a Product Owner, collaborating closely to continuously improve the crawler and deliver value to our customers.

A “five-minute interview” or “get a job in three clicks” approach is not the way we work.

Flexible approach for an interview format

We’re flexible and open for both online interviews and personal meetings at the offices. Choose the option that’s most suitable for you!

In order for the online meetings to be productive, we suggest following these tips to make sure you are set up well:

  • Join the interview from a laptop or desktop computer (not a smartphone). You may need to print something or present your screen during the interview.
  • Please turn on your camera. Visual communication is especially important for us.
  • Choose a quiet place to talk. Attending an interview from the street is not a good idea.
  • Keep your phone at hand in case there are technical issues that mean we have to continue the interview by direct call.
