🙌 Job Mission

As our first Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you will play a critical role in shaping the reliability, scalability, observability and performance of our technical platform. You will bring your experience to help us set standards and provide leadership to the DevOps culture within PowerUs. You will focus on maximising the quality, velocity and developer experience across our our product engineering teams. You will help bring new technologies to the company, work out how they fit with our current architecture, and that they are properly documented, maintainable and scalable. With a constant focus on automation you will ensure that our systems are robust, secure, cost effective, and capable of supporting our growth and innovation goals.

🎯 What You’ll Do

• Help define SRE: Establish and help lead the site reliability engineering within our Platform team. You will bring your experience to be a beacon of operational excellence with Product teams: creating best practices, frameworks, and standards for reliability, availability, and performance across our systems.
• Collaboration: Working with engineering leaders on finding and closing larger gaps in our test, monitoring, logging and debugging, developer experience, or other Platform-owned areas.
• Optimise velocity and innovation: Ensure we have access to state of the art platform components that will enable the best products and the fastest delivery of software. This may include a migration to a cloud provider such as AWS or GCP, where your role will be planning and execution, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal downtime and enhanced performance. Utilise your extensive experience in cloud technologies to make informed decisions about architecture and implementation.
• Infrastructure as Code: Set up and maintain infrastructure using tools like Terraform, ensuring consistency, repeatability, and automation in our environment setups.
• CI/CD: Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to facilitate rapid and reliable deployment of software. Work closely with development teams to integrate these pipelines into their workflows.
• Monitoring and Alerting: Develop robust monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact users. Implement tools and processes that provide actionable insights into system performance.

🌟 What We’re Looking For

• Proven SRE Leadership: Considerable experience as an SRE or in a similar leading role, ideally having led the establishment of SRE practices from the ground up.
• Battle-Tested Experience: Hands-on experience working in both startup environments and larger enterprises, bringing a wealth of knowledge on scaling infrastructure efficiently and implementing best practices.
• Cloud Expertise: Deep understanding and hands-on experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS or GCP, including successfully leading migration projects.
• Infrastructure as Code: Strong experience with Terraform or similar IaC tools, with a focus on building scalable and maintainable infrastructure.
• Containerisation & CI/CD: Proficiency with Docker, alongside setting up and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployments and reduce downtime.
• Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Expertise in implementing monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) to maintain system reliability and quickly resolve issues.
• Mentorship and Collaboration: Ability to work closely with development and product teams, providing guidance, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of reliability and performance.
