Job Description

The Chief of Staff to the CMO plays a critical leadership role driving operational rigor, strategic focus, and cross-functional alignment across the global marketing organization. Reporting directly to the CMO, this role acts as a strategic thought partner and operational leader to help scale marketing’s impact on growth, customer value, and enterprise valuation.

This highly visible position orchestrates marketing planning cycles, ensures organizational effectiveness, leads change management efforts, and advances strategic initiatives in collaboration with peers across Sales, Finance, Product, and the CEO’s office. The ideal candidate is a natural operator and strategic influencer—equally comfortable managing annual marketing planning cycles, helping the CMO to optimize budgets, and surfacing new levers for go-to-market performance.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Lead annual and quarterly planning processes for the global marketing organization, including marketing budget allocation, resource alignment, OKR setting, and interlock with Sales, Finance, and Corporate Strategy.

  • Partner with the CMO to architect and drive high-priority strategic initiatives that elevate marketing’s contribution to pipeline creation, brand equity, customer value, and company valuation.

  • Act as a thought partner to the CMO, contributing to decisions around marketing resource prioritization, rhythm of the business reporting, and strategic progress.

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Own the full cycle of marketing budget management—from planning and forecasting to real-time monitoring and optimization.

  • Build business cases including financial justification for marketing investment decisions, ensuring data-backed justification for program and headcount allocation.

  • Serve as Marketing’s primary interface to the Finance and FP&A organization, ensuring ongoing alignment around budget governance, reporting, planning cycles, and strategic investment decisions.

Analytics & Performance Management

  • Drive the development and evolution of marketing dashboards and performance reports that measure KPIs tied to pipeline, brand engagement, campaign ROI, and channel performance.

  • Own the integration of marketing performance data with campaign execution and program spend, ensuring the organization has a clear view of ROI by tactic, program, and channel.

  • Ensure marketing leadership has the insights needed to make data-driven decisions—partnering closely with RevOps, Sales Ops, and Analytics teams.

  • Champion a culture of accountability and continuous improvement through metric-driven management and shared scorecards.

Organizational Effectiveness

  • Lead and continuously improve operating rhythms for the marketing leadership team, including weekly staff meetings, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), offsites, and executive reviews.

  • Identify organizational bottlenecks and design solutions to enhance alignment, agility, and cross-functional execution across global marketing teams.

  • Drive change management initiatives, including AI adoption, across the Marketing organization to ensure smooth adoption of new processes, systems, and strategic priorities—balancing pace with clarity and alignment.

  • Collaborate with the CMO’s executive assistant to manage priorities, communications, and rhythm-of-business activities.

Executive Partnership & Influence

  • Represent the CMO in executive forums and cross-functional leadership discussions when needed.

  • Interface with senior stakeholders across Sales, Customer Experience, Product, Finance, and the CEO’s office to align on joint priorities and resolve executional challenges.

  • Support the CMO in the development of board and investor-facing materials related to marketing strategy, performance, and innovation.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in marketing operations, strategy, finance, or chief of staff roles within high-growth B2B SaaS or technology environments.

  • Proven success in leading strategic planning, marketing performance measurement, and executive communications.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to develop financial business cases, scenario plans, and board-level business cases.

  • Executive presence, high EQ, and a proven ability to influence senior leaders in a matrixed environment.

  • Expert in marketing performance metrics and modern tech stacks (e.g., Salesforce, Power BI, HubSpot, Marketo).

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to synthesize and translate complex topics for senior audiences.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, marketing, finance, or related field; MBA preferred.
