The Opportunity

We are seeking a customer-focused Solutions Engineer to be the trusted technical partner for our customers. You'll bridge our groundbreaking foundation model with scientists and engineers solving real-world biological challenges. Combining software engineering expertise with strong communication skills, you'll guide customers from onboarding to deployment, helping them integrate our SDK and model into their cloud environments. As the voice of the customer, you'll channel feedback directly to our Product and R&D teams to shape our platform's future.


What You’ll Be Doing

As an AI Solutions Engineer, you will have ownership over the following strategic domains:

  • SDK Design and Development: design and implement intuitive, high-quality, and well-documented Python SDKs for our ML/AI models.

  • API Management: develop and maintain the APIs that serve as the interface for both internal teams and external partners to use our ML/AI models.

  • Customer Enablement & Solution Architecture:

    • Partner with customers to understand their scientific and technical goals.

    • Design and implement robust solutions, guiding them on best practices for integrating our SDK and deploying our foundation model within their cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure).

  • Technical Onboarding & Support:

    • Lead the technical onboarding for new customers, providing hands-on coding support, workshops, and troubleshooting.

    • Ensure a world-class developer experience to accelerate customer success.

  • Deployment & Integration:

    • Master and advise on modern cloud deployment patterns using containers (e.g., Docker) and cloud images.

    • Help customers integrate with their MLOps pipelines and data workflows.

  • Voice of the Customer:

    • Act as the primary technical point of contact for our users.

    • Systematically gather customer feedback, identify pain points, and translate them into clear requirements for our Product development teams.

  • Customer-Facing Assets:

    • Build and maintain high-quality technical documentation, tutorials, code samples, and reference architectures.

    • Empower our customers to use our technology effectively and independently.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work intimately with the Product, R&D, and Business Development teams to align our product roadmap with customer needs.

    • Provide technical expertise during pre-sales conversations.


Who We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will be a customer-focused, technically proficient, and highly collaborative individual who thrives in fast-paced environments while delivering exceptional solutions. You are a technical bridge between our AI models and our customers' success.

  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Advanced Python Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in writing clean, well-tested, and maintainable Python code.

    • Cloud Deployment Expertise: Hands-on experience deploying applications and machine learning models in cloud environments (AWS strongly preferred, GCP/Azure a plus), using containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code principles.

    • Software Engineering Fundamentals: A strong understanding of core computer science principles, data structures, and modern CI/CD workflows.

  • Solution Design & Integration:

    • Software Design & Architecture: A very good grasp of object-oriented and functional software design principles, with the ability to reason about the trade-offs between performance, simplicity, and modularity.

    • SDKs and APIs: Experience working with and integrating third-party SDKs and APIs (e.g., REST, gRPC) to build complex applications.

  • Communication & Collaboration:

    • Customer-Facing Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. You can explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences (from PhD scientists to DevOps engineers) with clarity and empathy.

    • Team-First Attitude: Independent, curious, and detail-oriented; thrives in a dynamic environment; and is fun to work with.

  • Education: MSc or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • Languages: Full professional fluency in English is required for this role.

How to Stand Out:

  • You have direct experience working in Pharma, Biotech, or Healthcare roles.

  • You have previous experience in a customer-facing technical role such as Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Developer Advocate, or Technical Consultant.

  • You have deep experience with the AWS ecosystem and services relevant to ML, such as SageMaker, EC2, S3, IAM, and VPC.

  • You are familiar with deep-learning frameworks like PyTorch or JAX, and libraries from the AI ecosystem like Hugging Face Transformers.

  • You have worked with the lifecycle of AI models, including deployment, hosting, and optimization for low-latency inference.

  • You have experience contributing to and/or maintaining open-source projects.
  • You have experience in a startup or innovative environment, showing adaptability, proactiveness, and an eagerness to take on varied responsibilities.


The Candidate Journey

  1. Screening: Once you have applied, the hiring team will review your application to determine if your work experience and skills align with the necessary proficiencies of this position.

  2. Technical Assessment: Given the technical nature of the role, you will be invited to complete a timed (1.5 hours) technical assessment on a dedicated platform. This stage consists of a short set of Python exercises designed to assess your coding proficiency. Importantly, this preliminary screening stage will be followed by live coding interviews (see below), so that the candidate should not rely on external AI-based tools here.

  3. Interview Process: Following a successful technical assessment, you will be invited to a series of interviews. The core stages of our process are outlined below. Please note that the order may be adapted and additional conversations may be included to ensure a comprehensive evaluation.

    • Hiring Manager: A call with the Hiring Manager to discuss your background, motivation, and expertise. This will include a deep dive into your technical skills, including your experience with coding and cloud environments.

    • Technical: This stage is composed of 2 comprehensive, live-coding technical interviews with some of our senior engineers. The goal is to assess your skills along axes such as tradeoff analysis, problem decomposition, architecture design and algorithmic thinking.

    • Culture Fit: The last step is a conversation with a small group of additional team members. This is an opportunity to discuss your broader motivations and alignment with the company's vision, and for you to ask any final questions.

  4. Offer: Following the completion of the interviews, our hiring team will make a final decision and will be in touch to share the outcome. If the team would like to move forward, we will contact you to discuss the details of our proposed offer. Please note that an offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a reference check.

  5. Onboarding: We are happy to have you joining the team. Once you have accepted and signed your offer, we will be in touch to begin the process of onboarding you to Bioptimus.
