Regulatory, Product and Marketing Compliance | Acorns

Acorns is seeking a Regulatory, Product and Marketing Compliance Officer, who will report directly to the Chief Compliance Officer and will assist in all aspects of the firm’s compliance program. Our fast-paced Compliance team is looking for an experienced compliance officer with a background in Products, Marketing and Regulatory compliance, who will play a critical role in:

  • Advertising and Marketing: review to ensure compliance with securities laws and regulations;

  • Product Design: support Product streams on new and existing initiatives, translate requirements into practical and compliant solutions;

  • Compliance Program: enhance and maintain Broker-Dealer and Investment Adviser policies and procedures;

  • Oversight: analyze regulatory changes and activities; and

  • Collaboration: ongoing partnership with internal stakeholders across the organization.

This role sits at the critical intersection of compliance and innovation, requiring someone who thrives in collaborative product development environments while ensuring regulatory requirements are met. The ideal candidate will translate compliance requirements into practical technical specifications that product and engineering teams can implement effectively.

This role has the option to be remote or based in our Irvine or New York offices.

What you will do at Acorns:

  • Regulatory: Assist CCO with examinations, inquiries, and requests from regulators and relevant authorities. Serve as a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders. Proactively identify, prioritize, and mitigate regulatory risks.

  • Product Design: Support and provide guidance to Product teams, on a full range of issues related to customer-centric product development including compliance of [applicable laws and regulations] [laws and regulations applicable to investment advisors and broker dealers]. Perform pre-launch and ongoing product compliance support and regulatory analysis.

  • Marketing: Manage and oversee the day-to-day advertising, marketing, social media and public communications reviews. Partner with the content teams to address customer needs and deliver the appropriate solutions.

  • Collaborate regularly with key business partners, including Legal, Marketing, Product, Invest Operations and beyond, to support compliance initiatives.

  • Lead a small team of direct reports. Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback, to drive personal growth and ensure the success of the compliance program.

  • Plan and execute strategic goals and objectives aligned with the firm’s mission statement.

  • Drive key strategic compliance initiatives and support long-term organizational goals.

  • Serve as a role model by embodying and promoting the firm's cultural principles.

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • FINRA Series 7 and 24 are required. Series 65 or 66 license or willing to obtain it within the first 90 days;

  • 7+ years of regulatory compliance experience with a Fintech, SEC Registered Investment Adviser or a Broker Dealer. Strong financial services knowledge, including securities laws, rules and regulations;

  • 4+ years of people management experience with excellent leadership skills;

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a related field;

  • Extensive experience working with SEC and FINRA rules, specifically FINRA Rule 2210 and the SEC Marketing Rule;

  • Demonstrated ability to translate regulatory requirements into product and technical specifications;

  • Experience in financial services and related products a plus;

  • Strong understanding of user experience design principles as they relate to regulatory disclosures and customer interactions;

  • Collaborative mindset working with Product Streams to translate regulatory compliance requirements into product development, prioritize them and safeguard accurate implementation;

  • Ability to understand complex challenges and convert them into structured solutions, which are actionable for both internal stakeholders and Acorns customers;

  • Detail-oriented and able to work on multiple priorities, in a fast-paced environment;

  • Thirst for delivering game-changing products, ability to assess issues and proactively determine creative solutions;

  • Accomplished communicator, exceptional drive and precision in delivery;

  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating, motivating, supporting, and developing team members to meet performance expectations, and building careers;

Compensation Information:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $160,000 and $200,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including leveling, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, equity grants, and discretionary cash bonus awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
